Village Spruce-ups

Ditchling is fortunate to have Nicholas, an individual who can be seen around the village voluntarily litter picking throughout the year. The Ditchling Society organises more extensive clean-up operations as and when needed.

Litter is one problem, but verges and village pathways can quickly become overgrown if not tended. Often these picks are organised for early Spring, before undergrowth hides discarded items. We also try and liaise with East Sussex Highways; if roads such as Beacon Road are scheduled to be closed for any reason, we will attempt to clear areas that are otherwise too dangerous to cover.

Most years we organise a spruce-up in the autumn to ensure that the route of the procession to the war memorial on Armistice Day is presentable.

Lewes District Council has been very supportive of our efforts and, as a result, we have a range of tools and protective equipment available to us.
