Traffic

Whenever the Ditchling community is surveyed or asked its opinion, traffic comes out as one of the most important issues for the village. One of the few north-south routes between Brighton and the northern urban settlements in West Sussex passes through our village.

One can blame the narrowness of our streets, the increasing width of cars or the volume of traffic fed by new housing developments outside of our control, but the result is traffic jams, noise and air pollution, and a decline in the quality of life.

Little of this is within our control. The county, district and parish statutory authorities combined in 2017 to form the Beacon Parishes Traffic Plan committee. The Ditchling Society was a consultee and continues to contribute to the debate.
